DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The bulk of trade took place on
Wednesday and Thursday last week. Northern dressed trade
ranged from $169 to $174, mostly $173 to $174, $2 to $3 lower
than the prior weeks weighted average basis Nebraska.
Southern live trade ranged from $108 to $111, mostly $110 to
$111, $1 to $2 lower than the previous week's weighted
averages. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle Summary reports the accumulated weekly average price
totals are as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are
listed in parentheses): KS $110.15($111.92); NE
$173.09(176.02); TX $110.55($112.00); IA $173.06($175.42); CO
$109.00($112.00).
According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals are were: KS
12,481; NE 31,042; TX 7,316; IA 27,139, CO 5,485. Friday's
slaughter totaled 115,000 head, 2,000 head below the prior
week, but even with the previous week. Saturday's slaughter
estimate was 67,000 head, bringing the weekly total to
651,000 head, steady with the week before, but 18,000 more
than 2020.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: The country is typically quiet for a
Monday morning with bids and asking prices not established as
of yet. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until
the second half of the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be
mixed with light to moderate box movement.
For the week ending January 09, 2021, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 34,280, 133.91% of the previous week
and 109.63% of the 4-week average.
